Stunning Picture Series

Humans have always had a complicated relationship with nature and often behave in ways that attempt to counter the laws of nature. Although traditional Chinese culture stresses the ideas of “achieving perfect harmony between man and heaven” and “man should strive for the imitation of nature”, the greed and unlimited desire of the human race seem to shift the balance ever closer to the side that serves our self-interest. According to the paradoxical notion of “man shall conquer nature”, the act of taking endlessly from nature is viewed to be the natural order of things. Unfortunately, humans are tasting the bitter fruit of our actions in the form of global warming and large scale environmental damages, which could potentially lead to the demise of our species in the foreseeable future. At this point, we have no choice but to take a step back and reevaluate our actions, we must finally admit that humans are dependent on the “heavens” for survival. Our concern for environmental protection should be as grand as the “heavens”, there is no time to waste.

The “Stunning Beauty Series” is created out of respect and awe towards nature. If humans continue to take and destroy with reckless abandon, we will eventually recreate the scenario in Zhu Wei’s paintings – Men and women looking up at the sky with shocked expressions, not sure what will fall from the sky and what tomorrow will bring...
