In his creative research, he focuses on the works of western modern art masters (such as Cezanne, de Kooning, Dubuffet, Hockney, Picasso, etc.), and his works also reflect obvious linguistic features and pursue unique styles, including subject matter, spiritual meaning and language forms. At that time, in the Central Academy of Fine Arts graduation creation "Slanting Sun" series, by the academic community's wide attention and praise. In this set of works, Zhu Wei pursues: "abstraction in concretion", "emotion in rationality", "expression in reproduction", and emphasizes that good works of art must be achieved: artistic innovation must be established on the deep understanding and inheritance of traditional artistic language; Artistic expression should break people's normal visual habits and traditional artistic visual habits; Emotional expression should be real and direct; The sign of an artist's maturity is his mastery of artistic language; Attitude towards tradition and nature: learn from nature, get the heart source, the clay law and the common, listen to it. During this period, Zhu Wei's main creations were centered on the above academic core, creating a large number of landscapes, figures and thematic paintings. In the first two years after he moved to the United States in 1997, he has continued these research directions. The difference is that his works in these two years more reflect the characteristics of an artist with eastern cultural background, and a large number of Chinese cultural elements are integrated into his works, such as the large-scale series of paintings "Landscape Impression".
